Recappin’ the MUNRO out of the DN Awards

29 Dec

As fast as your money disappeared from your wallet when you went to Luke Bilyk’s birthday party, the 2010 Degrassi Nation Awards went as quick. We saw Stephen Stohn, Stefan Brogren, Ray Ablack and yes, me. (and I apologise for that!) All in all the award show was fun and I hope you enjoyed it, but the winners is something I will eventually discuss with you today. For right now I’ll discuss Stephen’s hint that was mention at the very beginning of the show.
When Epitome first sent me his clip, I was also a little bit confused as to what was meant. Since you guys are mostly in the tweens to teens range and possibly can’t dissect this yourself, I will do my best.

“In the picture of Julia that something strange happens to, Munro is in the picture as well”

Everyone on Twitter and elsewhere is thinking in the literal sense of the word “Picture” but not thinking out of the box. Obviously if you look at the picture of Julia in Eli’s room you won’t find Eli. Stephen was clearly talking about a storyline that Eli and Julia will be featured in rather than the “picture.” Come on people.

While we’re on the subject of the hint that Stephen revealed I want to mention the backlash I’ve received because it wasn’t BIG enough. A hint is a hint and nothing more. A hint is supposed to make people think, not tell you what exactly to expect and that’s exactly what happened.
As for the awards itself, to be honest it was a complete joke. For those of you who think that it wasn’t a popularity contest, I beg to differ. I would have been fine with him winning them all except for the fact he received at least 60 percent of the votes with over 20 other people to pick from. This was a complete disgrace to the other nominees, the producers of the DN show and most of all, the voters. With all bad things, come good things though. I’ve taken what happened this year and have decided not to allow fan girl voting next year. Like anything else major, I will have the writers vote for them instead so we avoid any “OMG Munro will totes sleep with me if I vote for him” voting drama. Because the awards were basically tainted I wanted to give you my choices for who should’ve won.

Originally Produced Fan Video of the Year: Even though I love the Anya Twins (who did a fantastic job), and what can I say about the drum cover, I would have chosen the Luke fan girls video. Even though I despise Luke for charging to go to his birthday party, I do have to commend those ladies for the effort. It was hilarious. They received 93% of the vote.

2010 Degrassi Nation Rookie of the Year: This is very difficult because all the new cast members shot straight to the top in terms of storylines. Jordan did a fantastic job with her transgender storyline but when I think of Rookie of the Year, I think of the person who shot straight to the top of the show. That person was Munro Chambers. Don’t get me wrong, I hate how much attention he’s detracting away from others but he plays Eli Goldsworthy like a champ!

2010 Degrassi Nation Moment of the Year (Presented by Ray Ablack): This one was also chosen correctly as that was arguably the biggest moment of the year. Congratulations to Munro Chambers and also to James Edward Campbell.

2010 Degrassi Nation Couple of the Year (Presented by Stefan Brogren): lol at “Brogs, what it do?” With all the grief I give Eclare fan girls, I have to give this one to them. Though I love Ziley. It’s hard for me to chose between the two, but Eclare would’ve received my vote.

2010 Degrassi Nation Actress of the Year (Presented by Panther, the Epitome cat): I love Aislinn and everyone who was nominated. With that said, I just love Annie Clark. LOVE her. I would have chosen her mainly because of the performance she put on with the abuse storyline. Fantastic job, Annie!
2010 Degrassi Nation Actor of the Year (Presented by Melissa Sutton, Assistant to Executive Producers): Even though Munrois a fantastic actor, I would’ve chose Landon Liboiron. Such a quality and believable actor. Can’t wait for his new opportunity takes his career!

2010 Degrassi Nation Song of the Year (Presented by Erin & Kary): The winner was VV Brown, and I’ll stick with that pick. All four of these songs are so good and it’s too hard to say anything different that who you already picked.

2010 Degrassi Nation Moment of the Year (Presented by Sarena Parmar): Are you guys kidding me? The kid has a messy room. Well, I guess a transgender storyline isn’t as important that. Obviously the moment of the year for me is Adam’s transgendered status is revealed. Now when I think of epic moments in the history of Degrassi I can add Adam into the mix.

2010 Degrassi Nation Episode of the Year (Presented by Stephen Stohn): Gee. Am I surprised that “Umbrella” won? NO! I loved “Body is a Cage,” and its too bad it was in season 10 because in any other season it would’ve been my favorite. Just like Stephen Stohn, my favorite episode is also “All Falls Down.” It had suspense, drama and a cliffhanger, what else do you want. Well, I guess it was more ECLARE…
So there you go, hopefully you all enjoyed it and what a performance by Emily Marie Alvarado. That girl is going places. I wish her the best luck in her future endeavors.

I also hope I didn’t ruin the awards with my presence. ” I can’t talk today..” LOL. Thanks to everyone who was involved and those who watched. PEACE. LOVE. MUNRO. I think I just puked a little.

Is it possible Stephen’s hint is exactly what he said? “In
the picture of Julia that something strange happens to, Munro is in
the picture as well”…. we haven’t seen the episodes yet to
come… maybe a photograph of Julia and Eli has something weird
happen to it?? He probably wasn’t referring to the pic we saw in
the room during the hoarding scene.. Possible maybe in his clean up
of the room something happens to a picture? who knows for sure..
why not ask Stephen himself to clarify? btw Stephen isnt that old
that he would be refering to a film clip as a “picture” LOL ,. at
least I dont think so !!

    • searching578 December 29, 2010 at 3:49 PM #

ive even thought that the picture of Julia is simply a
morphed photoshopped picture of Eli!! never know this technology
      age!

PLEASE, next time have just the writers vote. The fangirls
DESTROYED the -could-have-been nice to see awards. This was just a
    bad invasion.

    • Degrassi Nation December 30, 2010 at 3:58 PM #

It’s really was salena. A complete waste of time. And yes all the people from Degrassi-fans will be voting along with Degrassi blog and a few other qualified writers. This will hopefully eliminate any bias

      • Selena December 30, 2010 at 4:39 PM #

Much better. It wasn’t a complete waste, it was cool to have people from the show give out the awards.

Yea, that would make it much better next time. Stop the bias votes. Hey, at least it was a learning experience.

i’m really happy that gregg put this up because he’s right
about one thing if not all the other stuff too: a hint is a hint.
its meant to make you think. and i hate that people get all pissed
off at him because the clue wasn’t big enough! just be thankful he
got you a hint you ungrateful people! be grateful that stephen even
GAVE you a hint. that is all. btw great job gregg

    • Degrassi Nation December 30, 2010 at 3:55 PM #

Thanks lily! Yup a hint is a hint. Even though people have thanked me for the time and energy that I wasted on this most of them comained and yea I’ve received death threats which is very sad. Wish people would realize there is a real world out there that doesn’t include Eli and Clare!

Besides the fact that there was obvious voting bias, you
did a pretty sweet job with the show. I appreciate the hint, even
if it didn’t make much sense. I like to think that anything is
better than nothing. Btw: You actually received death threats over
this? If yes, then wow. I’m majorly disappointed to be associated
        with the Degrassi fan base.

      • Degrassi Nation January 11, 2011 at 12:22 PM #

        Thanks for the support!

      • Ashley January 3, 2011 at 9:26 PM #

Death threats?! Seriously? Wow…it’s just an awards
ceremony, and the little hint was nice! It is a shame that people
have taken things a bit out of proportion.

I am personally a huge huge huge fan of Munro and I truly
think that all of the awards he won he deserved. Maybe the story
line one could have gone to Adam though. Munro might have gotten a
lot of votes because of fangirls, but a lot of them are because he
is an amazing actor and his character has a wonderful storyline! 🙂
So I totally agree with your thought on the people who in your
opinion should have one, for the most part! 🙂 and I agree we
really should be happy that they gave us a clue even if it is hard
to figure out. Hense the CLUE! 🙂 PS Love this blog!

I have to admit, I got sucked into the whole “OMG MUNRO
YOU’RE SO HOT & MY COMPLETE LIFE” thing, (i eventually
realized that there was a whole world outside of that 😉 but the
awards were..completely “munro-based”. He’s an amazing actor and
definetely deserved a few of the awards, but I think that the
fangirls got carried away and didn’t think about the other
actors/actresses that try just as hard, or even harder to succeed
in those sections. I’m really glad that you put this up, Greg.
People need to see that it’s not all about Munro, no matter how
amazing looking, its supposed to be a talent based competition.
    love always. ❤ 🙂

  6. Ash January 3, 2011 at 2:51 PM #

Yes, I do agree that the awards were biased. Us fangirls
were just caught up with Munro’s good looks. I think I speak for
all of them when I say that we were being silly. Also, now that I
think about it, I agree with all of your corrections. But I think
all of the Degrassi cast and crew deserves awards for such an
    outstanding year.

  7. Chrissy January 7, 2011 at 4:54 PM #

Umm, not to be rude or anything, but since you basically
mainly used twitter (aka fangirl land) for advertising that’s why
most of the votes were for Munro. Also you didn’t have registered
voting so for all we know someone voted hundreds of times
themselves, With no limit to the number of times you could vote it
makes it hard to have equal footing for anyone. And yes there are
people out there who would vote that many times or more cause they
border on obsession. If I may be so bold to suggest next year: Use
a site that has registered voting with email verification. Yes some
people will still get multiple votes, but nothing like what happen
this year. Partner up with other fan sites to get a broader level
of fan base for voting. I know that a lot of older Degrassi fans
would have voted differently if they had only know about it. Choose
Less options per category, it’s obvious some things had no chance
so why not cut out the wasted votes. Lastly you could always still
have the fan vote but let that only equal 20-40% of the voting
total at the end. — I honestly was surprise that Love Lockdown or
All Falls Down didn’t win. Even if it was only voted on for the
Eclare moments, Love Lockdown was brilliantly shot and directed.
All the main actors were amazing, Munro and Aislinn yes, but even
more so Landon, Charlotte, and Annie. It was very powerful and if
looked at from Declan’s point of view as it was supposed to be
viewed, it was clearly the best acted/scripted/directed episode of
the season. Umbrella was actually not that bad, again
directing/acting everything was great, the fail was the hording
storyline. It just was a very random issue to throw in there and
didn’t make sense. But the actors did very well for what they were
given to work with. Oh and song of the year should have been
Hotblack, in my opinion it was the best placed song in the year, it
fit the moment perfectly and really did have an “All falls Down”
feel, especially the timing of the nana na na na part in the hall
way. Shark in the Water was perfect for the promo and really got us
pumped up for the season, but when it came to using it in an
episode it was just kinda there. If not for the promo it wouldn’t
have had a chance. If you had a promo song category though I would
    have picked it.

    • Chrissy January 7, 2011 at 6:11 PM #

and I accidently cut off part of my post: Despite the
issues you had, I as a fan appreciate that you put this together
and were able to get so much involvement. That was the best part of
this, the award part didn’t matter as much as seeing how they were
all willing to be involved with the fans since its not like anyone
was paid or anything. So thanks for give us this even it the voting
didn’t go the way you wanted.

Hey this was fun to watch and read about, really a great
idea for an all Degrassi awards show. Why not? one of the more
entertaining teeny-drama shows, it really puts other shows in its
category to shame. My brother and I have been watching it for years
now and it keeps just getting better! I didn’t mind yourself being
in it, I thought it was sort of neat putting a name to a face,
never really knew who exactly was running this site. I’ve subbed to
this website and your twitter for awhile and its really cool of you
to organize all of this! I thought it was entertaining and you did
a great job! Hope there will be one this upcoming year?

    • Degrassi Nation January 10, 2011 at 10:44 PM #

Hey Brooke! How are you!? Yes! Next year same date! But let me know what u want to change. Let me know on dnawards2010.wordpress.com

  9. Jess January 16, 2011 at 6:32 PM #

I completely agree! I was really excited to hear about the awards and when I heard about the results, I was shocked. Don’t get me wrong, I love Munro, but seriously? I loved your choices for what should’ve been chosen. Next time, are you ONLY going to open voting to writers?

    • Degrassi Nation January 25, 2011 at 2:24 PM #

I have a lot to think about if there’s a next year award show. Writers will only vote. But well see

  10. tayler February 1, 2011 at 8:16 PM #

degrassi is awesome.. i watch it every day.. I LOVE IT ALOT!!
