Trying to slowly make my way around to the Degrassi Fandom. Not there yet, but Degrassi Nation WILL be back Soon.
Thank you once again for another year of the Degrassi Nation Awards! Before I get into what I thought the picks, I want to comment on the show itself. So here are the good,
the bad and the ugly during this years show.
Last year, my first year, I decided the DN Awards completely decided by the Degrassi fans, but I didn’t account for was that these fans are just going through puberty and would vote soley on who they would rather sleep with rather than who actually deserved the award. Affectionately we have named the first year’s awards “The Munro Chambers Awards.” As I edited the awards, knowing the result I felt a huge slap to my face. BUT that all changed with the new DN Awards voting scheme, which gave 90% of the voting to various prominent Degrassi-ologists with just 10% going to the fans. Although I didn’t vote, the results were much better than I could have imagined and it definitely toned down the fangirling.
Last year, I had 3 weeks to produce the Degrassi Nation Awards. This year I had just over a week. To say I wasn’t happy with the quality of this years show would be an understatement. The show was rushed, plus I’m a horrible editor, plus my computer was extremely slow & frustrating. Added on with the fact that I am a perfectionist when my name is on a product…Those things combined make for a terribly frustrating time producing the show. The DN Awards are VERY fun to make. Not only is it nice to make a show that is recognized as THE show everybody needs to watch, but making it the best I can is something I love to do and need to do. The DN Awards are meant to be funny, but at the same time be as serious as a Jay Hogart Blowjob. BTW I wonder if Emma spits or…ya know what, never mind… Anyway I feel the quality didn’t live up to what it should be and for that I am sorry.
As noted above, production was cut in half and with that AND a slow computer, its hard to catch mistakes. Most notably was at the beginning. After the DN Intro, you saw me
on a frozen lake, but instead of hearing me, you heard a snare. This didn’t show up when i sent it to YouTube, but didn’t have time to fix it. Plus the ridiculous cut scene
when I send it to Kary (DegrassiBlog.com) and the Kenya segment shows up. Many of you found it hilarious, but was one of many mistakes that I promise I will work on for next
2011 DEGRASSI NATION AWARDS REVIEW
First and foremost I must Thank MARITA who is responsible for the fan videos & Clips that were sent to me. I really couldn’t have done it without her. The show went well. The reaction to the JT Yorke: 5 year tribute was fantastic! I’m an old school kind of guy. Probably because I am old. But I really love reliving great characters such as JT and itys wonderful that I made you guys remember. Another special feature was KERRI who won Last years Halo Award and won a trip to Kenya with Charlotte & Ray. Hope you enjoyed that exclusive footage as much as I did. Thanks to those of you who presented for me (including MELISSA DIMARCO!). Since Epitome and I aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye right now, I had to call an audible. Finally, I hope you enjoyed my cocky/funny/drunk parts. I think most of you want to see the man behind The DN. My favorite part, for me, was coming out after the intro to the Show to CM Punk’s theme song. I felt like I was living my dream of coming out to WWE Raw. And at the end when i ended the show with Stone Cold’s theme. Does that not scream LEGIT! Ohhhh and the actual show was good to.
2011 DN AWARD FOR DEGRASSI ROOKIE OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY MARISSA
CRISTINE PROSPERI! So glad she won. When I looked at the nominees, I immedietely assumed Justin Kelly would win. Munro last year, Justin this year, why not? But not only did sheplay the quirky Imogen well enough to win, but she almost skunked the competition. If it werent for The Degrassi Experience, who chose Chloe Rose, Cristine would have garneredevery single vote in this category. Cristine deserved that award and brings something that Degrassi hasn’t had since Spinner Mason. Comedic Relief. As mentioned, Cristine recieved 90% of the overall vote, and now the fan voting was at an outstanding 60%.
2011 DN AWARD FOR DEGRASSI BEST SUPPORTING OR GUEST ACTOR OR ACTRESS OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY MELISSA
RAMONA MILANO! I wouldn’t exactly say she deserves this or doesn’t deserve it. I do, however LOVE the song that went with her fanvid, “Stacey’s Mom,” Clever, eh? I think out ofthe four that were nominated I would have picked Tufford Kennedy. He plays Eli’s father like a fuckin’ beast. Helps his son out when he needs to offer guidance or support but in the most believable (not over-bearing) way. Ramona though, did fantastic too. She plays Drew’s mom so well that I almost believethat Luke’s mom is also a bitch. ALMOST. As for voting in this category, Ramona recieved 30% of the overall voting as Tufford Kennedy was the fans choice with 22% (Ramona recieved 7%).
2011 DN AWARD FOR DEGRASSI CRYING MOMENT OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY MICHELLE
KC AND JENNA GIVE TYSON UP FOR ADOPTION! This was a little predictable. Everybody loves a good heartwarming, or in this case a crying moment. Editing this one made me a little sad and maybe just a bit teary-eyed. Overall this scene recieved 60% of the overall vote with voting from the fans at 34%.
2011 DN AWARD FOR DEGRASSI SONG OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY KARY
AUGUSTANA’S STEAL YOUR HEART! Again, sort of predictable. Some say, because this song wasn’t on an episode it shouldn’t be included. BUT the award is a song that representsDegrassi in any way. Episodes, Mini’s Promo’s, they all count. But, I will have to tweak something in this category. This song gave us an idea of what is to come in Season 11 and that is why, I think this song won. Great Choice, though I absolutely love “Uh Oh” by Junior Doctor. Augustana “Steal Your Heart” recieved 40% of the overall vote and they also topped the fan voting with 24%.
2011 DN AWARD FOR DEGRASSI STORYLINE OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY LAURA
TYSON IS PUT UP FOR ADOPTION! This is the second award that they won, such a pivotal storyline on Degrassi. Overall, this storyline recieved 50% of the vote with the fans giving them just 5% in this category. Shocking, right? NOPE! Hey lookey here! #1 in fan voting, with 19% was Eli’s unscripted meltdown. Next was Clare breaking up ECLARE. 3 out of the top 4 (again, like last year) were ECLARE. THAT is why I enacted the new voting scheme.
2011 DN AWARD FOR DEGRASSI COUPLE OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY JENN
ECLARE! Yes, Eli & Clare win their second Couple of the year DN Award. Surprise! I think I would have picked ECLARE as well, even though their reign as a couple in 2011 was short-lived. I would have picked Zane and Riley if that were an option. Degrassi didn’t do that couple any sort of justice. It’s sad that they wasted Shannon’s talent as an actor. I loved them as a couple, but ECLARE wins again. YAY! *Sarcasm*. Eli & Clare recieved 50% of the overall vote and 49% of the vote from the fans.
2011 DN AWARD FOR DEGRASSI ACTRESS OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY AMY
Charlotte Arnold! I guess not everyone hates Holly J, as Charlotte Arnold wins actress of the year. So happy she won. I was torn between Annie and Charlotte this year, so either actress winning would have been fine with me. Although, I’m extremely please that Charlotte won because of the simple fact that she is a senior, because we all know Annie will win it next year! Overall, Charlotte recieved 30% of the vote, while Cristine Prosperi gets past Jordan Todosey by one vote, with 18 percent is the fans top choice for the award. Charlotte recieved 11% from the fans.
2011 DN AWARD FOR DEGRASSI ACTRESS OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY TIARA
Munro Chambers! I really can’t complain about this one, even though Munro is the sole reason why i enacted the new voting system. He really was the actor of the year in 2011. The difference between this year’s win and last years is legitimacy. I can take Munro more serious as Actor of the Year because of the way people voted. His love for Clare is so believable, his meltown was incredible and his pain, shown on camera is remarkable. He’s definitely going to The CW NEXT! Shockingly Sam Earle and Munro both tied, with 40%, but the tie goes to the fans, who voted Munro for Actor of the Year with an outstanding 62%. FUCKING FANGIRLS!!!
2011 DN AWARD FOR DEGRASSI EPISODE OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY ME!!!
EXTRAORDINARY MACHINE! The best of both worlds. You get your Eli obsession AND for the 3rd time, KC and Jenna giving up Tyson for adoption WINS! No episode really stands out for me in 2011, or at least Season 11. Extraordinary Machine recieved 19% of the fan vote.
Top Award Winners:
Munro Chambers: 4 time Greggy Award Winner
KC & Jenna Adoption: 2 time Greggy Award Winner
Aislinn Paul: 2 time Award Winner
Most of you who come here, or who have come here on a regular basis are probably wondering… “Why has this douchebag not updated in a million years?” Well, I think I owe it to you all to update you. DegrassiNation.com has been around since 2009, I’ve had so much fun filling you guys in with Degrassi news, gossip and even comedy along the way. Unfortunetly, I am old and with that comes a job that requires me to stay away from Twitter/Computer. It pains me to say this, but I will be leaving DegrassiNation.com for the immediate future. I may also take this time to revamp DegrassiNation.com to make it worth visiting. I’ll still be on twitter, doing my usual “I hate fangirls” bullshit and feeding you with as many cocky and arrogant tweets as I can. The livetweeting will happen during every NEW episode, as long as I get a live stream of TeenNick. Thanks to all who have visited, over half a million of you, that is awesome! Be sure to check back in December as I will have the Degrassi Nation Awards and the Nomination Special on this website.
Thank for all the love,
